FASTING

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

by Pastor Jeff Sherk

SPIRITUAL PERSPECTIVE

In the past, I’ve done my share of fasting, although admittedly not as much as I should have. One of the hurdles I always had a hard time overcoming was that I somehow felt like I was trying to negotiate a deal with the Lord, and that I was saying “God, I’m going to fast, so what are you going to give me in return?” I knew that God didn’t work on a barter system like that, but I also knew that scripture was full of examples of the power of fasting in many of the prophets and disciples lives.

So what was my problem? Why was I thinking the way I was about fasting? Well it boiled down to the fact that I had never really ’searched the matter out’ for myself, and my own misconceptions (my misunderstanding or my sin) was leading me to this false feeling about ‘bartering’ with the Lord.

John 8:32 says “… you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Well, searching out the truth about fasting has certainly set me free from feeling like I am playing “Let’s make a deal!” with the Lord!

I just finished reading “The Hidden Power of Prayer & Fasting by Mahesh Chavda (Destiny Image Publishers ISBN 13: 978-0-7684-2410-2)” and it was a great help in bringing clarity in understanding the subject of fasting from a spiritual perspective. Let’s take a look at some scriptures, so you can understand more clearly …

FEAST OF DEDICATION

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

by Kari Duda – Dallas, TX, USA  Age: 46

This is some of the word what I taught my grandsons when I studied about Chanukkah for my visit to California over the holidays.

Ezra 6:16 And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the DEDICATION of this HOUSE of God with joy,

DEDICATION in Hebrew is Chanukka 2497 – dedication, which corresponds to 2498 Chanukka – dedication, consecration.
The Gesenius Lexicon defines it as initiation, handselling of a house.
Some of the definitions for handselling from the Webster’s are a first installment of payment, the initial experience of anything, a foretaste, experience for the first time.
This word is from 2496 chanak – to train, dedicate, inaugurate.
The Lexicon – to make narrow, to be narrow, to strangle, to put something into the mouth, to give to be tasted, to initiate a house…
We know that we are the house and we are the temple, 1Cr 3:16 , 2Cr 6:16…

1 Chronicles 26:27, 28 Out of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate (to consecrate, sanctify, prepare, dedicate) to maintain (to strengthen, prevail, be firm, to press, to repair/ from the Lexicon- to tie fast, to bind bonds strongly) the house of the LORD. And all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish… had DEDICATED; and whosoever had DEDICATED was under the hand (hand power, portion) of Shelomith, and of his brethren.
Shelomith means “peaceful”
`and is from: Shalowm (shalom) – completeness, soundness, welfare, peace, …

THE BRIDE HIDDEN IN THE FEAST OF THE LORD

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

by Wayland Henderson – New Castle, PA, US

Greetings To All In The Name of Our Lord Jesus,

I yearn to express to you a revelation The Lord spoke to my heart and I believe this is a now word for the Bride. When we take a look at the way Jesus taught there are profound things that the scriptures reveal to us. Mark 4:33-34 states that when Jesus spoke to the crowds He only spoke in parables and without a parable He didn’t speak. Yet it also says that He explained all things to His disciples. In Mark, Jesus makes this statement;

Mark 4:11-13
11 And He said to them, “To you it has been given to KNOW the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are OUTSIDE, all things come in PARABLES.

With whom was Jesus speaking?
His disciples – his disciplined pupils. To those that were on the outside He spoke only in parables.  Here we have two types of people -  those who are disciples and those who are on the outside. The question remains…outside of what? The word outside in the Greek means to be outside the door! Jesus says in John 10 that I am the door! The word door in that passage of scripture  means, a door or a metaphor or parable! Jesus says to His disciples that it is given to you to KNOW the mystery of the kingdom of God. The word KNOW in the Greek and Hebrew speaks of intimacy or intercourse. It …

THE BRIDE IS NOT READY

Friday, December 11th, 2009

by Pastor Jeff Sherk

Revelation 19:7 says “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.

Question: Who it is that has made His wife/bride ready? It does not say God or Jesus made her ready. And it does not say she was okay just the way she was. It says that SHE had to make HERSELF ready!

So who this wife/bride? Ephesians 5:23 says “For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.” The comparison clearly shows us that the CHURCH is this wife/bride. And WE are the church!

The church today wants to tell you “God loves you just the way you are… you don’t need to change” and “You’re under grace… just keep living anyway you want!“, but clearly this is not going to cut it at the end of the age.

God does love you, but He loves you enough to tell you that you DO need to change and that you cannot stay the way you are. And what about grace? Yes we are under grace, but God’s grace is not something that means you live however you want and just repent every now and then. God’s grace is that He reveals is character to you and in you, so that you CAN change. His grace is the revealing of the Torah, a …

WHAT IS THE BURNING BUSH IN YOUR LIFE?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

by Claire-Lise Walk – Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Exodus 3:1-5
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off your shoes from off your feet, for the place whereon you stand is holy ground.

The book of Exodus is one of the 5 books of Moses, also known as Torah. The original text was in Hebrew and Hebrew always expresses a function unlike English, for one. So it is important to know what the Hebrew root of that English translated word really means, as we shall see in the following example.

Let me first recapitulate the events up to the above passage. Moses had a mighty call on his life which he was very much aware of, but in his zeal and lack of understanding of God’s ways, he took …

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Friday, August 21st, 2009

by Prophet DJA MUTAMBA – Lyon, France

Matthew 28: 19-20: “19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…”

Colossians 1:28-29: “28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.”

After reading these two passages, we see the Lord’s genuine desire: HE WANTS DISCIPLES! HE WANTS DISCIPLES! WHY?

Luke 6:40: “40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.”

HERE IS THE BLUEPRINT OF THE REPRODUCTION OF CHRIST IN US.
Everyone that is PERFECT, meaning, having reached the maturity SHALL BE AS HIS MASTER.

Let’s read these verses also.
Luke 14:25-27: “25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.”

Here we have two distinct groups of people: the multitude and the disciples. The multitude was following Him because they saw Him perform miracles, they saw Him heal the sick, …
