My name is LaShawna S. Luis, and I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.
At 19, I moved to New Castle, PA approximately a month and a half ago. The Lord God lead me here to follow Him. Upon my move I had to transfer universities from Cheyney to Slippery Rock University. Both being different in price, with Slippery Rock being the more expensive one, I was forced with a great financial need. Since my mother’s credit was not of good standard, I could not take out any loans. I needed to work to help pay tuition but there were no jobs accessible from my school and church within walking distance. At this point I had no car, no job, and no way to pay my tuition; BUT I had Jesus Christ my Savior who, in my weakness, is strength revealed. So I began calling and filling out applications, spending most of my time trying to arrange job interviews and meetings with the President of Slippery Rock. I continued this process for two weeks. One particular week I heard wise words spoken from men of God at my church. They stated “Don’t be anxious. Wait for what God has for you. We are to get to the point in our walk for the Lord where nothing else matters and if YOU keep God first, sister, everything else will fall into place.” These words changed my life. I took heed to them and held them close to my heart. I sat back and let God do His will. Two weeks later I received a call requesting my presence at a special meeting. When I went, I was informed of a full ride scholarship they had given me. As I was leaving the same voice asked “Ms. Luis, are you looking for work?” I replied “Yes Ma’am.”!
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, you save me from violence.
